SKT Council's January 2014 Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful and restful Christmas season with your
family and friends.
We have a few projects that we will be working
on for the rest of the school year including the parent information binders,
the playstructure project and of course our major event Fun Fair! We are always looking for volunteers to help
out with various tasks. If you are
interested in helping out in any way, please fill out the form below before January 24th.

Please
join us for an ARTPALOOSA PIZZA PARTY on Friday, January
31st 2014 from 6:30-8:00 PM
SKT School
Council wants to create an engaging and accessible playground that will foster
healthy, active children in all grades. Currently we have one small play structure
that is designated for the K-3 students, however, as our school population is
growing, we need a second structure.
Help us in
raising awareness and funding for this project by attending this FREE event where kids can get
creative with art on canvas.
Pizza and
juice/water will be available in the gym at 6:30 then Parents
will gather in the Learning Commons for an information session
while their kids are busy creating an art masterpiece in the gym!
Later your child’s art will be auctioned off at a community event to help
raise funds for this much needed playground.
THIS WILL KICK OFF THE 1st IN A SERIES OF EVENTS TO HELP OUR CHILDREN...
GET CREATIVE, GET FIT, AND HAVE FUN!

Call for Volunteers! We need all the help we can get for
the Playground Project.
We need help co-ordinating fundraising events, contacting
local businesses for donations, grant writing and planning and implementing the
playstructure installation. If you are able to take on a role to help
please contact Crystal Soames at soames@rogers.com

Thank you from Mrs. Germain,
the SKT Library Technician
First of
all, I would like to say an ENORMOUS thank you to Council for facilitating the
GIft of Reading. Secondly, I have to say an even bigger thank you to all
the parents and students who chose to give the teaching staff a present in the
form of the Gift of Reading. The Learning Commons received over $700, an
unprecedented amount of money and I am truly stunned by your generosity and
humbled and gratified by your commitment to reading and the SKT Learning
Commons. Many many thanks from your Library Technician, Mrs. Germain.

Accessing
Blackboard Learning Resources:
Did you know that all students at the school have access to
additional learning websites such as Learn360, Google Docs, Discovery
Education, OERB, EBSCO and many others. You can access them through the board's
Learning Blackboard: bboard.ocsb.ca. All of these resources are found under the
"Quick Links" section.
To login, use your child's student number preceded by
"s", e.g. sxxxxxx (You can find the student number on an old report
card or you can ask your child's teacher)
The password for students in primary (jk to grade 3) is
"1".
The password is personalized by the student in grade 4. (The
password can be reset by asking your child's teacher if he/she has forgotten
it)
