April Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy Easter! Spring is here and as promised last month, your school council has many fun activities planned for the next two and a half months before the summer break. These activities include a movie at the school, a private screening of Rio2, an afternoon of bowling, dinner at Boston Pizza and of course Fun Fair! We understand that all families will not be able to participate in all of our activities, but it would be great to see you at one of these community building activities.

These activities are not only a chance for the students (and their families) to get together outside of school but they help council raise funds that help the school. Some of the items that we have recently purchased for the school and students include the maple taffy for the winter carnival, a push cart used at pizza days, the Shrove Tuesday pancakes and some of the items that the teachers purchase to supplement classroom needs.

As always, we can’t do this without your help, if you think you can help out in any way with any of our events/initiatives, please do not hesitate to contact us.

A big Thank You to the students who made and sold bracelets at the Snow Glow Fun Night as they donated all of the proceeds to a family with cancer.

April 25th Free Showing of Lorax!
We will be having a free movie night on April 25th at the school and we will be showing the Lorax in celebration of Earth Day. The movie will start at 6pm (doors open at 5:30pm) and Admission is Free! Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase.

We are looking for volunteers to help out that night. If you can help out, please email skt.council.ocsb@gmail.com with your availability.

We will need volunteers for clean-up and two specific jobs: making popcorn, selling drinks/popcorn. The shifts will be divided into 45 minute segments (5:30-6:15 and 6:15-7:30) and clean-up will happen from the end of the movie until everything is cleaned up.

The Making Popcorn job will involve making popcorn.
The Selling Drinks/Popcorn job will involve selling drinks and popcorn.
Clean-up will involve washing the popcorn machine, wiping down all mats, putting away the chairs and sweeping the floor in the gym.

Save the Date for a Boston Pizza Family Dinner on Monday, May 12th
Why not extend Mother’s Day to the Monday and take the family out for dinner to Boston Pizza on May 12th. More details will be available soon.

Fun Fair!
Fun Fair will be held on Thursday, June 5th from 5:30-8:00pm. There will be a bbq, special guests:
Princess Anna and Iron Man, bouncy houses and/or obstacle courses, face painting, games and much
more! Hope we will have a warm and dry day. Hope to see you there!

We are specifically looking for a volunteer coordinator to help out with this event. This position would
involve organizing the volunteers (both students and adults) and being the point person that night to
coordinate all of the volunteers. We are also looking for people willing to help barbeque the food. We
will be establishing a schedule so you could still spend some time with your family. The next Fun Fair
meeting is May 7th, please contact skt.council.ocsb@gmail.com if you can help with the event.

Playground
The students that were not able to create their masterpieces at Artpaloosa will have the chance on April
29-30th. Once all of the artwork has been created, we will be displaying some of the art during
education week and all of the art will be posted in a virtual online gallery.

Playground committee will also be organizing a couple family friendly activities including the Private
Screening of Rio2 on May 3rd at 10am and a Family Bowling Afternoon on Saturday, May 17th at 2pm.
Family and Friends are more than welcome to attend these events. More details will be available soon!

Call for Volunteers! We need all the help we can get for the Playground Project. We need help coordinating
fundraising events, contacting local businesses for donations, grant writing, and planning &
implementing the play structure installation. If you are able to take on a role to help, please contact:
skt.council.ocsb@gmail.com.
